How this quiz works

Type book names into the box and each one lands in its section, from the Law through to Revelation. The counter tracks how many of the 66 you have.

The minor prophets are what separate a good run from a finished one: twelve short books between Hosea and Malachi that most people can name four of. The thirteen letters of Paul are the other block worth learning as a block.

Numbered books take any spelling you like — “1 Samuel”, “First Samuel”, “1st Samuel” and “I Samuel” are all the same answer.

When the clock runs out, or when you give up, every book you missed is revealed in its section.

Questions people ask

How many books are in the Bible?

66 in the Protestant canon: 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New. Catholic Bibles add seven deuterocanonical books for 73, and Orthodox canons add more again, so this quiz says up front which count it uses rather than marking anyone wrong for a different one.

Can I change the timer?

Yes. Pick 3, 5, 10 or 15 minutes before you start, or choose Count up — that mode has no limit and the clock stops the moment you get the last one, so it doubles as a speedrun timer. Your choice is remembered for next time.

Do I have to press Enter?

No. Every answer is taken the moment you finish spelling it and the box clears itself, so you can type straight through a run without touching Enter. Names that begin another name are handled too: type “niger” and Niger counts immediately, then carry on with “ia” — or just type “nigeria” in one go — and Nigeria counts as well.

Does spelling have to be exact?

Capitals, spaces, hyphens, punctuation and accents are all ignored, so “first corinthians”, “1 Corinthians” and “i corinthians” all count, and “Revelations” is accepted for Revelation. There is no Enter to press — an answer counts the instant you finish spelling it.

Are the books in order?

The sections are, and the books within each one are. That is the order they appear in a printed Bible and the order most people learned them in: the Law, the history books, the wisdom books, the prophets, the Gospels, the letters and Revelation.
