This quiz uses 195: the 193 UN member states plus Vatican City and Palestine. There is no single right answer — Taiwan, Kosovo and Western Sahara are recognised by some states and not others, so they are left out rather than marked wrong either way.

Which continent do Turkey and Russia count as?

Continents follow the UN geoscheme, the one assignment with a published rule behind it. It puts Turkey, Cyprus, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia in Asia, and Russia in Europe. Every country appears in exactly one continent, so the six continent quizzes add up to this one exactly.

Can I change the timer?

Where one answer is the start of another, the shorter one waits for Enter so the longer one stays typeable.

How this quiz works

Type country names into the box and each one lands in its continent. The counter tracks how many of the 195 you have, and every continent shows its own tally so you can see where the gaps are.

Sweep a continent at a time rather than guessing at random — Africa is the biggest block at 54 and the one most people lose points in, and the small island states of Oceania and the Caribbean are where a nearly perfect run usually ends.

When the clock runs out, or when you give up, every country you missed is revealed in its continent.
